DESIGN CHALLENGE

Redesign PLNU’s Fair flyer with a fresh, engaging layout that reflects the university’s spirit. The flyer should have a unique shape, highlight key features and rankings with compelling visuals, and be easy to read. Create both English and Spanish versions to ensure accessibility for a diverse audience at events.

CREATIVE SOLUTION

I explored various concepts, including a surfer, a van, and a surfboard, before refining the design into a surfboard shape that reflects PLNU’s surf culture. I organized and grouped extensive information into a narrow layout without overwhelming the reader. I focused on readability, visual hierarchy, and symmetry. By carefully placing text and using visual elements to guide the eye, I ensured the flyer remained clear and engaging. The final design effectively communicated key details while maintaining a fun, beach-inspired aesthetic that resonated with the audience.

WHY THIS MATTERS

Deviating from the standard rectangular flyer to a surfboard-shaped design creates a unique and engaging marketing experience by aligning with PLNU’s surf culture, capturing attention, and offering a fresh, memorable way to engage the target audience.

10,000 copies of this flyer were ordered and distributed to potential PLNU students and families as of May 2025.
