DESIGN CHALLENGE
These experimental posters will promote and motivate public interest in Latinx type-designers and their contemporary typefaces. Explore experimental approaches to poster design and layout to create emotional resonance, a beautiful visual hierarchy, and a dynamic, balanced layout.
CREATIVE SOLUTION
The goal of this project was to create awareness surrounding Latinx type-designers. The “Obvia” typefamily, designed by Brazilian designer Marconi Lima in 2018, served as the foundation. My approach involved research and intensive typographic and image experimentation using a modular grid to create posters that celebrated the characteristics of the type family, the designer, and the culture. The “Brazil” poster featured bold typography and vibrant colors, while “ML” incorporated Lima’s space and sci-fi interests alongside the Brazilian flag’s color palette.
WHY THIS MATTERS
This project aligned with marketing principles by using compelling visual storytelling, strategic typography, and cultural relevance to engage audiences, build awareness, and create an emotional connection with the work of Latinx type-designers. We created a pop-up event to showcase these Latinx type-designers at Keller Gallery. The turnout was a great success, and students and professors enjoyed learning about these designers and their typefaces.
